Stop The Dream

The past and future are fantasies
Like the image of the sun,
Always 8 minutes old, from here

They are composed of things finished
Or things happening but never really becoming a finished thing, themselves
So staring at them only hurts your eyes

All dreams, labors and passions, then
Are in the present,
Never getting oldー
But you do
Who like the light of the sun never stop,
Until you can’t become any longer

And you’ll stop, and
Others will know youー
As new things
Or no thing
Or “a thing of the past”

If you cannot seem to find the present
Sit in a place apart from everything else
But from where you might see
Everything going by

Now breathe

At the impulse to get up and
Go byーlike everything else,
Stay seated ー
A bit longer, and
Breathe ー some more

When you begin to worry,
Notice it’s not because of
Everything else ー
Or because of what and who
Are going by ー
But rather…
From what you’re grabbing at them with
Now ー
In your mind

See those moving things,

Inside and out ー for now ー
As clouds

Have you ever grabbed a cloud;
Or the things that make up the 8 minute-old light ー
Of our mother sun?

If you have answered this,
And you know why it matters,
You have conquered the fantasies
Of past and future,
And are a little closer to knowing
What and when you are

Congratulations, for ー
Now,
You are alive
